Movers and Shakers, It Starts With Us events

I'm very excited to introduce you to my first guest blogger, It Starts with Us Founder, high school teacher and fashion lover, Kylie Wharton. Here on my blog, Kylie shares her tips on how to make our wardrobe work harder. Enjoy!

My workplace has been a high school classroom for the better part of ten years. When I first took on the challenge of teaching, I was three months shy of 22 so I felt the need to assert myself through wearing an impressive corporate wardrobe (hello, Cue!).

Over time, as I’ve become more experienced (and older!), I’m far more comfortable in my ability and classroom management which has been reflected in my wardrobe choices.

This, in turn, has seen my wardrobe evolve into a wearable collection of pieces that I often incorporate into my weekend style. Gone are the days of being a single, shop-a-holic gal who had a wardrobe for work in the spare room whilst my ‘fun’ pieces lived in my bedroom wardrobe! Now a mum and wife as well as a teacher, I have different priorities. I choose versatile pieces that I can wear to a few different events, in a few different ways.

I still love fashion and I adore scouring Instagram boutiques but my criteria to “add to the cart” now features a specific checklist:

  • Can be worn with: heels + brogues + converse sneakers + boots
  • Wearable fabric (ideally – no ironing needed!)
  • A suitable length for work and weekend kid-wrangling
  • Has an element of interest

The Kathryn dress certainly has ticked all of the boxes. I fell in love with the cute ties on the arms, the slight lift of the front hem-line, and the tiny polka dots.

I’ll be styling Kathryn like this Monday - Friday in the classroom…

Which look do you prefer? Why not have a go at transitioning some of your workwear across into your weekend wardrobe.
